TIP Frequently Asked Questions

1. Do I have to register?

YES, you must RSVP in order to attend a TIP session.

2. How do I sign up?

You will sign up for a TIP in Step 2 of the three step “Intent to Enroll” process.

Register and attend early in order to be eligible to register for courses. Attendance is mandatory and you will not be able to register for classes without attending TIP.  The dates are: Friday, April 17, Friday, May 1, Friday, June 5 and Friday, August 7.

3. Is there a fee to attend?

NO, there is no fee to attend. However, please come prepared to purchase your own lunch and to pay for parking.  

4. What if I can’t attend TIP?

Attendance is mandatory.  If you do not attend, you will not be able to register for Fall 2009.

5. I don’t live in the area of San Jose, do I have to attend?

Yes, TIP is a mandatory event and you will not be able to register for classes without attending TIP.

6. How long will the program run?

The program begins at 9:00 AM and concludes by 3:45 PM at the latest.

7. Do I need to attend the full-day program?

YES, each aspect of the program will help prepare you to enter SJSU in the Fall.

8. Will I be able to drop-in for part of the program?

NO, You must attend the entire day and be prompt. You will not be able to participate once the program has begun.

9. Where do I park?

Parking is available at the Seventh Street Parking Garage located at the corner of Seventh Street and San Salvador and in the Tenth Street Parking Garage at the corner of Tenth Street and San Fernando. You may purchase a one-day permit for $8 from an automated ticket vending machine, conveniently located on the 3rd floor of the garage and above.

10. May I bring guests or children?

NO, the program is not designed to accommodate guests or children.

11. What can I expect from the day?

The day’s activities are designed to provide you with a university welcome, class registration information, academic advising, and important information about your college and academic department. While on campus you can also check on your financial aid and campus housing, as well as get acquainted with the Spartan Bookstore, public transportation options, and other campus services.

12. Can I cancel my attendance or reschedule?

NO, remember that attendance at TIP is mandatory. And, due to space and capacity issues, switching dates cannot be accommodated.

13.  What if I get admitted late?

Students admitted after June 1 are required to complete the Next Steps process within two weeks of the date on their admission letters.

14. How do I get more information about SJSU?

You should have received a copy of the Transfer 101 brochure in the mail. Read the brochure carefully. It will guide you to most campus resources. It is also recommended that you purchase a University Catalog and download the Fall 2009 Schedule of Classes. Become acquainted early with SJSU parking and alternative transportation options by going to the Parking Services website at http://www.sjsu.edu/parking/.

15. How do students receive accommodations for a disability?

This event is wheelchair accessible. Please contact the TIP Coordinator at 408-924-2527 to request sign language interpreters or other reasonable accommodations no later than the RSVP deadline for the TIP session you are registered for.
