Transfer Orientation Frequently Asked Questions
1. Do I have to register?
YES, you must RSVP in order to attend Transfer Orientation.
2. How do I sign up?
You will sign up for Transfer Orientation in Step 2 of the three step “Intent to Enroll” process.
Register and attend early in order to be eligible to register for courses. Attendance is mandatory and you will not be able to register for classes without attending Transfer Orientation.
3. Is there a fee to attend?
YES, there is a mandatory, non-refundable $70 fee to attend.
4. What does my fee cover?
This fee pays for:
- All programming costs
- Parking for the program
All students MUST attend the program. No portion of this fee is "optional" as students are required to participate in all aspects of the program. This fee is non-refundable.
5. What if I can’t attend Transfer Orientation?
Attendance is mandatory. If you do not attend, you will not be able to register courses for the semester in which you are admitted.
6. I don’t live in the area of San Jose, do I have to attend?
Yes, Transfer Orientation is a mandatory event and you will not be able to register for classes without attending the entire program.
7. How long will the program run?
The program begins promptly at 9:00 AM and concludes by 3:45 PM at the latest. Students who arrive late will not be allowed to attend the program.
8. Do I need to attend the full-day program?
YES, each aspect of the program will help prepare you to enter SJSU in the spring.
9. Will I be able to drop-in for part of the program?
NO, You must attend the entire day and be prompt. You will not be able to participate once the program has begun.
10. Where do I park?
Parking is available at the Seventh Street Parking Garage located at the corner of Seventh Street and San Salvador and in the North Parking Garage at the corner of Tenth Street and San Fernando. You will be provided with a printable parking permit when you receive your confirmation letter approximately one week before your registered program date.
11. May I bring guests or children?
NO, the program is not designed to accommodate guests or children.
12. What can I expect from the day?
The day’s activities are designed to provide you with a university welcome, class registration information, academic advising, and important information about your college and academic department. While on campus you can also check on your financial aid and campus housing, as well as get acquainted with the Spartan Bookstore, public transportation options, and other campus services.
13. Can I cancel my attendance or reschedule?
NO, remember that attendance at Transfer Orientation is mandatory. And, due to space and capacity issues, switching dates cannot be accommodated.
14. What if I get admitted late?
Students admitted after the Intent to Enroll deadline are required to complete the Next Steps process within two weeks of the date on their admission letters.
15. How do I get more information about SJSU?
You should have received notice of admission and can find a link to the Transfer 101 brochure at info.sjsu.edu Read the brochure carefully. It will guide you to most campus resources. It is also recommended that you review the University Catalog and the Schedule of Classes at info.sjsu.edu. Visit the Parking Services website to acquaint yourself with SJSU parking and alternative transportation options.
16. How do students receive accommodations for a disability?
This event is wheelchair accessible. Please contact the Accessible Education Center at 408-924-6000 to request sign language interpreters or other reasonable accommodations no later than two weeks before the Transfer Orientation session you are registered for.
