Current ProjectsMediated Cable Television CoursesBeginning this Fall San José State University will offer courses through a new mode of instruction that utilizes cable television, the web and classroom instruction. These ‘mediated’ courses will include video programs that are available on Comcast Cable in the San Jose Area, as well as through streaming video on the web. Current courses include Stress Management and the Philosophy of Science. The video lectures will be combined with on-line instructional exercises, discussion boards, and other web learning tools. Students will also have on-campus sessions where they will interact with their professor. The cable broadcasts will begin the week of August 30th and can be seen on Comcast Cable Channel 28 in San Jose. Philosophy 160, Philosophy of Science, airs from 6-6:30 pm Monday through Thursday. Taught by Professor Janet Stemwedel, the course explores the philosophical aspects of scientific reasoning. Human Performance 069, Stress Management, airs from 6:30-7 pm Monday through
Thursday. Professor Peggy Plato teaches this exploration of the physical, mental
and emotional factors in stress management. On-Going ProjectsWireless Laptop Pilot ProjectAn ongoing initiative to upgrade the university's learning spaces to provide 21st centry technology-enabled learning environments for faculty and students. SJSU Virtual TourThe university's virtual tour came online in early 2003. Over the course of the next year the site will be enhanced with streaming video and an interactive map. Past ProjectsSmart Classroom MediaApproximately 50 classrooms are being renovated in 2003-04 to provide instructional technologies and wireless network access to enable faculty to utilize electronic media and materials in their lecture and classroom lab activities. Streaming VideoMaintained by Media Production and Delivery the university's streaming media infrastructure which is used both in and outside of the classroom will be upgraded in 2004. The system was recently used to stream and document the King Dream Team's World Record attempt.
