About Us

The Chicanx/Latinx Student Success Taskforce was created to bring together faculty and staff from across campus to develop concrete ways of supporting Chicanox/Latinx students at SJSU and addressing the achievement gap. Our students are often the first in their families to go to college and face unique challenges in their pursuit of their college degrees. They also have a great many strengths and resources that they can and do use to help them be successful; and our objective is to help them build on those strengths and develop the skills and knowledge needed to thrive as undergraduates.

The Taskforce coordinates a number of different events each semester to support students. We also offer on-going services, including academic advising. This website shares all of our resources and supports for students as well as information on each of the many staff and faculty committed to helping students. Explore it, join us for an event, stop by and visit any of us, and give us feedback on how SJSU can better support our Chicanx/Latinx students.

Objectives

  • Strive to create a supportive environment and infrastructure to address the retention and achievement gap for underrepresented minority students.
  • Develop programming that addresses specific socio/cultural barriers in helping students successfully navigate SJSU during their educational journey, culminating in graduation.
  • Assess whether existing programming are meeting the needs of students and if students are better served with additional resources to address any service gaps.
