Title IX

Recently, there has been some media attention on the response to Title IX complaints from colleges and universities. We are dedicated to meeting the challenges of changes in laws during the upcoming year.

The Office for Equal Opportunity and the Student Conduct and Ethical Development Office are excited to offer training to our staff and faculty on Title IX and the new regulations pertaining to sexual violence. Student Affairs will be providing our incoming students with online training similar to the format for Alcohol EDU.

If you have a group of staff or faculty members who would like to receive this training, please contact Julie Paisant at (408) 924-2255, or Shannon Quihuiz at (408) 924-5985 to get a session scheduled.

Person Climbing Stairs
Spartans Stepping Beyond

SJSU's online recognition program, Spartans Stepping Beyond, had a great start and we have enjoyed reading about all the Helping and Caring attitudes and actions all over campus. We'd like to share a few of the many recognitions here and encourage you to read more on Spartans Stepping Beyond. While you're there, take a minute to recognize someone who has stepped beyond for you.

Veronica Diaz is Stepping Beyond

Veronica has been extremely helpful in addressing my graduation needs, from an evaluator's perspective. She has also been very patient in answering my questions and concerns, as well as providing timely information to help me make sure that I graduate on time.

During the last semester before graduation, it's easy to feel overwhelmed and anxious. Bur Veronica has made the process a lot less scary for me.

Thank you Veronica!!!

Simone Horne is Stepping Beyond

"Being non-judgmental is a skill. Simone is the Olympic champion. I've never met someone so open to who I am as her. It makes me so happy to see her each day!!!"

Marcos Pizarro is Stepping Beyond

"Genuinely caring about his students. Asking us constantly how we are doing, whether we need help in anything in school, home, etc. Taking steps to help his students and non students going above and beyond and taking action that he is not required to do, but he does because he loves his students. Very nice guy, best teacher I had in my two years at SJSU."

Nicholas Ayala is Stepping Beyond

"Nicholas has been an inspiration and mentor to many students. It is his determination and aspirations that attract students to look up to him. As the President of Associated Students, Ayala has implemented Campus to the City which he came up with on his own and the purpose for this is to increase Spartan Pride, build a stronger community on and off campus, and build a safer environment for our city. After countless meetings with the city, companies, and on campus departments Ayala has pushed the paintings and decals for all street frames to start this May instead of Spring 2015. On top of that, Ayala has been working with Spartan Shops to implement a more sufficient method for students to order food at a faster and convenient pace. Ayala has gone above and beyond in not only his professional life as President, but personally by building relationships and connections with the city to sponsor SJSU events, services, and recognition. Ayala has put in 100% of his time and energy to the current board and Associated Students by connecting with each individual, like no other president has ever done in the past, in the history of Associated Students. I only heard great things about him and many employers and staff members have said Ayala is the best president A.S. has ever had."
