Retirement Savings Program Fair

Save the date! Human Resources is hosting a Retirement Savings Program Fair on Thursday, May 14 from 11:00 to 1:30 in ENG 285/287. This is your opportunity to connect with the Tax Sheltered Annuity providers.

The CSU 403(b) Tax Sheltered Annuity (TSA) Program is a voluntary program that allows eligible CSU employees to save toward retirement by investing pre-tax contributions in tax-deferred investments in either annuities or mutual funds. There are five TSA providers: Valic, Fidelity Investments, Voya (formerly ING Life and Annuity), MetLife, and TIAA Cref.

It’s never too early to start planning for your retirement! Learn about your options, ask questions, and set up a one on one appointment with your provider.            

Free Biometrics Screening

Anthem Blue Cross will be on campus Thursday, April 30, in Clark 547 to conduct free biometric screenings for SJSU employees. Knowing your “health numbers” can help you take charge of your health and well-being. It only takes 15-20 minutes to get these non-fasting screenings: cholesterol, blood glucose, blood pressure, and BMI. At the end of the 15-20 minute appointment, your results will be available .

All participants will be entered in a drawing to win five $50 VISA cards, five $100 VISA cards, and one $250 VISA card courtesy of Anthem Blue Cross. You don’t need to be an Anthem Blue Cross member to participate and win!

HR Training Calendar April –June 2015

The new HR Training Calendar April – June 2015 (PDF) is posted on the HR website.  We have a broad range of professional development and personal development learning opportunities to support university managers and staff.

Some highlights include: Intro to Skillport 8.0 on April 17, Stepping Beyond: SJSU Customer Service Training on April 21, and Respect in the Workplace on May 5.

HR Website Improvements

Have you visited the HR website lately?  We’ve heard your feedback and launched a few changes to make the site more user-friendly. The Employees menu has been reorganized by HR Function and Resources, which should make navigation more intuitive.

Other changes include:

  • Change in the primary navigation order
  • Calendars are now located under Employee/Resources
  • The Career Opportunities page has been redesigned
  • The HR Functions pages have the contact information for the HR employees in the applicable service group

Eliminate Sexual Violence (Title IX)

The Chancellor’s Office and SJSU are pleased to announce training in response to the Violence Against Women Reauthorization Act (VAWA) President Obama signed into law. This law imposes new obligations on colleges and universities under its Campus Sexual Violence Act (SaVE Act) Provision, Section 304.

Under VAWA, colleges and universities are required to:

  • Report domestic violence, dating violence and stalking beyond crime categories the Clery Act already mandates;
  • Adopt certain discipline procedures, such as notifying purported victims of their rights; and
  • Adopt certain institutional policies to address and prevent campus sexual violence, such as training  pertinent institutional personnel.

This training is tied to CSU Executive Order 1095 - Implementation of Title IX, VAWA/Campus SaVE Act, and Related Sex Discrimination, Sexual Harassment and Sexual Violence Legislation.

Please note that the course is voluntary for employees in collective bargaining units, but mandatory for Managers and Confidential employees. This course is being offered via Skillport’s Law Room, and all employees already have access. The course name is EDU: Eliminate Campus Sexual Violence (CSU) and will take approximately 60-90 minutes to complete.

You will get instructions in the email on how to log in to get started with the course. The training requirement will be ongoing.
