Staff Fee Waiver Fall 2015

The deadlines for submitting Fall 2015 fee waiver applications are posted on the HR Website. The Staff Fee Waiver Program allows eligible employees to attend California State University classes at reduced rates. Eligible employees can transfer their fee waiver benefit to a qualified dependent. There are three different types of staff fee waivers:

  • Career Development
Employees who have been accepted into a degree program and are matriculated students.
  • Job Related
Employees taking courses specifically to improve their performance in their current job or to acquire additional skills needed to perform newly assigned duties and responsibilities. These employees are not matriculated students and are not working toward a degree.
  • Dependent Fee Waiver
Eligible staff employees may transfer his/her fee waiver benefit to a spouse, domestic partner, or dependent child. The spouse, domestic partner or dependent child needs to be matriculated toward a degree or attainment of a teaching credential in the CSU. Dependent children must meet the eligibility requirements outlined in the employee’s collective bargaining agreement.

Visit the Staff Fee Waiver web page, or contact Julie Inouye Wong for more information. Faculty fee waivers are handled by Faculty Affairs.

Recruitment and On Boarding Updates

Human Resources continues to review the processes around the recruitment, selection and on boarding of new employees to ensure we are providing the best service to you and our incoming employees. The following changes went into effect May 1, 2015:

Position Descriptions
Position Descriptions must be signed by Workforce Planning and the Appropriate Administrator in the department before a job will be posted.

Employee Profiles
An Employee Profile is no longer required to be submitted as part of the recruitment process. Only the email from the hiring manager outlining the details of the appointment is required.

Deadline Change
The deadline for the hiring manager to email the appointment details to Workforce Planning is now Tuesday morning at 8:00 a.m. in order to have your new employee start the next Monday. This ensures Workforce Planning and Employee Services have ample time to process the candidate's information so they are able to use email and other services on their day of arrival.

Use of iSupport to Submit Selection Packet
iSupport is now used to submit the selection packet to Workforce Planning. The hiring manager, or his or her designee, will open an iSupport change ticket and attach the materials. Workforce Planning will continue to email the hiring manager with the approval to extend an offer and the response to the email must come from the hiring manager.

For details on the process, please see On Boarding in iSupport on the HR website.

As always, we are here to help, so please let us know if you have any questions, and please don't hesitate to provide us feedback as you use the new iSupport process. We welcome your input as we continue to work to make this process more streamlined for you and create a more helping and caring welcome for our new employees.

Workers' Compensation & Employee Injuries

In compliance with California Workers' Compensation (WC) Law, an employer must report all work related injuries or illnesses arising out of and in the course of employment. To comply with this law, all supervisors should complete the necessary forms within 24 hours and adhere to the following injury reporting procedures.

To qualify for WC benefits, all work-related injuries or illnesses should be immediately reported to the employee's supervisor or Human Resource at (408) 924-2155. The supervisor completes the Employer's Report of Occupational Injury or Illness (PDF) and provides the injured employee with a Workers' Compensation Claim Form (DWC 1) and Notice of Potential Eligibility (PDF) to complete and return to HR.

See Employee Injuries & Accidents for additional reporting and medical care information. All WC benefits are administered by Sedwick CMS, a Third Party Administrator who determines eligibility.
