Erase Waste Update
This semester we continue focus on reducing waste at the Dining Commons by facilitating a variety of educational events for meal plan holders. The September event, “Be the Change,” demonstrated how students can better utilize resources at the DC to reduce their personal amount of food waste. The October event, “Project Positivity,” taught students how to create a positive environment in the DC and in their own personal life. The November event, “A Day in the Life,” detailed how students can maximize the nutritional benefits of food for every meal on a daily basis. Students who participated were eligible for grand prize gift sets!
Student Hunger Committee
National Hunger Awareness Week was November 14th-22nd. This is a great time of the year to reflect on things we are thankful for but also to share our compassion with others. The Student Hunger Committee will continue to provide non-perishable food items to the 15 food shelves around campus for students to utilize. If you are interested in donating, please visit sjsu.edu/food for additional information.
Spartan Shops is proud to work with GreenWaste, a recycling and diversion company, that collects all waste from our eateries. Spartan Shops currently has a 90% diversion rate, meaning 90% of our waste is diverted from landfills and taken to a recycling and composting facility, reducing our overall greenhouse gas emissions.
Don’t miss any of the SJSU men’s and women’s basketball action this season! Make it a family outing and take advantage of the free tickets for SJSU faculty and staff. While you’re there, visit our concession stands in the Event Center for some tasty game day treats like the famous Gordon Biersch garlic fries.
