Facilities Development & Operations
Construction Projects - Update
There are a number of very exciting and significant construction projects that the Facilities Development & Operation team is working on. These projects center around improving our student and academic spaces on campus. Here is a brief summary of the major projects.
Dudley Moorhead Hall
Dudley Moorhead Hall houses many lecture classrooms, faculty offices, and 4 department offices. The building was built in 1957 at a time when air conditioning was not included in State buildings. With the support of the President and the Provost, FD&O will be installing air conditioning in the building. The project will begin immediately following the end of the Spring 2016 term and will be completed in December 2016. During this time, there will be no access to Dudley Moorhead Hall.
New Science Building
The planning process has begun on a new science building and will continue through 2016. We will share more information regarding this new academic building as it becomes available.
Student Union Expansion & Renovation
Construction was completed in 2014 on the new portion of the magnificent Student Union Expansion. This space includes the Student Union Ballroom, the temporary Spartan Bookstore, as well as Union Square. Additionally, Associated Students General Services and the University Theatre are now located in the east end of the building.
The renovation of the original Student Union building has been underway since summer of 2014. The renovation will provide key meeting space, and expanded food services with a Starbucks and a Subway. It will also house many student services and campus departments including Student Involvement, LGBT/WRC, Mosaic, and the Veterans Center. We are anticipating that the renovated building will open sometime this month.
There are two spaces within the renovation project that are still under construction; the new Spartan Bookstore that will have significantly more space, and the Student Union Bowling Center. Updates to follow soon on these two important projects.
Campus Village Phase 2
The construction of our latest 10 story student residence building is progressing quickly. From the outside the building looks ready to go. Teams are now working collaboratively on the inside of the building which will support 850 students. We are targeting a completion time of Fall 2016.
Student Recreation and Aquatic Center
Planning for the new student recreation and aquatics center is proceeding as planned. The SRAC will include a 3-court gymnasium, multi-activity court, weight & fitness space, a rock climbing wall, jogging track, a competition pool and a recreation pool with deck space. We anticipate construction to begin in Summer 2016 and be completed at the end of calendar year 2018.
