Spartan Shops is celebrating its 60th anniversary! We are honored to have served this campus for 60 years and look forward to providing quality food and great customer service to the SJSU community in the years to come. Look out for a celebratory event in the Fall for all SJSU students, faculty, and staff.
Spartan Foundation President’s Award
The Spartan Foundation annually presents two major awards; the Dan Caputo Founders Award and the President's Award. The President’s Award is selected by the current Spartan Foundation President and is given annually to an individual(s) for their distinguished service to Athletics. This year, Steven Olesen, Senior Director, Procurement & Budget Services at Spartan Shops, Inc. (and Cathy Busalacchi, Executive Director, Student Union) were selected to receive the President's Award for outstanding fundraising efforts and their commitment to the success of President's Cup Golf Tournament.
Street Eats – New Schedule
Can’t get enough of Street Eats fusion style food? We’ve updated our schedule and you can find us on campus three times a week! Connect with us on Facebook where you can stay up-do date with our menu items, hours and you can even submit suggestions on what you’d like to see served from our trucks!
Starbucks and Subway
The celebrations have begun - Starbucks and Subway are now open! Stop by the Student Union and visit our full-service Starbucks on the ground level. Grab your favorite Frappuccino then get your favorite toasty sandwich from Subway, right here on campus. Life just got a little better.
Dining Commons Compost
To reduce waste at the Dining Commons, the kitchen staff has been collecting excess food scraps like vegetables, fruits, and coffee grounds. These compostable scraps are then collected and donated to the Associated Students Community Garden on San Salvador Street for their compost bin.
The sustainability tracking, assessment and rating system (STARS) is a transparent, self-reporting framework for colleges and universities to measure their sustainability performance. San Jose State University received a silver rating in 2011 and we are reapplying this coming summer hoping for gold! The STARS team recently held a STARS kick-off event for the key stakeholders on campus that will be contributing to the STARS report. A local and sustainable lunch was provided while Provost Andy Feinstein and Interim Vice President Administration & Finance/CFO, Josee Larochelle, spoke about the importance of sustainability at SJSU. A Sustainability presentation was featured to showcase the sustainability efforts currently being made by all campus departments. The report is set to be completed by June.
