Staff Fee Waiver Fall 2016
The Staff Fee Waiver Program is an excellent benefit for SJSU employees. Full-time employees and part-time permanent employees are eligible and fee waiver covers 2 courses or 6 units per semester (whichever is greater). Eligible employees can also transfer their fee waiver benefit to a qualified dependent. There are three different types of staff fee waivers:
- Career Development
Employees who have been accepted into a degree program and are matriculated students.
- Job Related
Employees taking courses specifically to improve their performance in their current job or to acquire additional skills needed to perform newly assigned duties and responsibilities. These employees are not matriculated students and are not working toward a degree. Employees taking prerequisites for a degree program they are planning on applying to can also use Job Related.
- Dependent Fee Waiver
Eligible staff employees may transfer his/her fee waiver benefit to a spouse, domestic partner, or dependent child. The spouse, domestic partner or dependent child needs to be matriculated toward a degree or attainment of a teaching credential in the CSU. Dependent children must meet the eligibility requirements outlined in the employee’s collective bargaining agreement.
The deadlines for submitting Fall 2016 staff fee waiver applications are posted on the HR Website on the Application Requirements and Due Dates page. Faculty fee waivers are handled by Faculty Affairs.

Performance Evaluations - One Piece of the Bigger Picture
It's annual performance evaluation time again but it's important to remember that managing performance shouldn't just happen once a year. Performance management is an ongoing process that involves setting expectations, goal setting and planning, and regular feedback, in addition to the formal performance evaluation. Providing ongoing feedback is imperative to the success of every employee and helps fulfill the Vision 2017 goal of helping and caring.
As a reminder, annual staff performance evaluations (April 1, 2015 through March 31, 2016), including those for confidential employees, must be turned into HR no later than June 15, 2016. Annual MPP evaluations (July 1, 2015 through June 30, 2016) must be in HR no later than August 15, 2016.
