Over the summer the Spartan Shops Administrative Office teamed up with PG&E’s Step Up and Power Down to launch an energy savings campaign called Sweet Goodnight. Businesses from all over the Bay Area participated in powering down to save energy. The campaign was designed to inspire people to shut down their computers at night and get a sweet treat in reward. Over the course of the campaign, the number of computers powered down at night increased weekly. If powering down at night turns into a habit for the Administrative Office, projected annual savings would be 7,449 Kilowatt-hours.
Sustainability Mission Statement
Our Sustainability website has been updated. We have created and included a new sustainability mission statement:
Spartan Shops is committed to integrating environmental responsibility into our food sourcing, practices, and products we purchase to support a sustainable SJSU community.
Le Boulanger and Just Below are donating their end of day bread, bagels, and pastries to Peer Connection's Breakfast Club (located in the Student Services Center) and to Food for Thought (located in the Wellness Center). These two programs are free for students in need of food.
Composting with Leftovers
Food scraps, collected in the kitchens at The Commons and Union Square, will be composted in the Associated Students Community Garden. Composting our food scraps means less food waste and healthy soil.
