Hotel/Motel Occupancy Tax Waiver
Did you know that employees traveling overnight in California on official State business
are sometimes exempt from paying hotel/motel transient occupancy taxes? Taking advantage
of this exemption is a great way to reduce travel costs, saving money for the University.
To receive the exemption, provide the hotel or motel with a completed Hotel/Motel Transient Occupancy Tax Waiver form, along with a University issued SJSU ID Card, a University GoCard or American Express
Government Card when you check in. Many hotel and motel chains have their own form
and some establishments do not grant the tax waiver, so please check with the individual
hotel.
The Hotel/Motel Transient Occupancy Tax Waiver can be found on the Accounts Payable
website. For additional information about traveling on official University Business,
please see the SJSU Travel Guide.
