Help Desk Support

Help Desk support is evolving to provide improved technology support with more online resources and a one-stop, single point of contact for calls and information.

Information Technology Services (ITS) is consolidating its help desks, effective December 3rd. Information Support Services (ISS), the single help desk, can be reached by phone at 4-1530, or by email. Please visit ITS Technical Assistance for more information.  

Partnering with ISS is Academic Technology's Information Technology Support Services (ITSS) and eCampus Helpdesk, supporting teaching and learning applications. ITSS can be reached by phone at 4-2377, or by email. Visit ITSS Help Desk or in person on the 1st Floor of Clark Hall.

Both the ITS and ITSS Help Desk teams support students, faculty and staff and are trained to ensure proper support of all requests. This cross training helps us share the support role during peak times.

Mailman Shutdown

November 30th marked the completion of the University's move towards consolidating list services to SJSU Google Groups. ITS retired the lists.sjsu.edu Mailman service and all current lists are now groups on Google Groups.

Google Groups is an easy to use service that allows you to create discussion groups and distributions lists. Watch Google Groups in Google Apps to see Google Groups in action.

SJSU Google Groups eliminates the need for a separate password and adds powerful collaboration features as demonstrated in the Google Groups Collaborative Inbox.

ITS Winter Break Activities

During December, ITS will be providing hands-on training, video instruction and documentation for the new Cisco VoIP Phone System to the initial departments where phones are being deployed. Details and links to training materials will be made available at ITS Projects.  

As part of the Next Gen Technology Project, some changes will be made during the break including upgrades to network switching in Housing and replacement of campus border firewalls with next generation Cisco equipment.

During the campus shutdown, the week of December 24th, regular IT Help Desk support will not be available. However, you can call 408 924-1111, option 7, to access support from PC Helps during this time. PC Helps supports WebEx, SJSUOne password resets, and desktop support.

The final transition of student email to Google Mail occurs on January 2. All Hotmail accounts will be deleted and email sent to those addresses will no longer be delivered.

Next Gen Learning Space

Next Generation Learning Spaces

As part of the Next Gen Technology Project, we are enhancing a number of classrooms with advanced audio visual and video recording capabilities.

The first Next Generation Learning space installation is Clark Hall 118 and will be administered by Academic Technology as a Lecture Capture training lab. Training and space tours will be offered to faculty and staff by Academic Technology. You may also take a virtual tour.

CL 118 will be used as a model for future lecture capture spaces on campus. The next lecture capture space will be CL 238, a 40-seat classroom with a target completion prior to Winter Break.
