Compensation Update

The CSU continues to update us with information about the 1.34% compensation pool. Here is where everything stands today. All increases are retroactive to July 1, 2013.

CFA (Unit 3)

$80 increase to base pay for eligible employees. The increase will be reflected in the November pay warrant issued December 1, 2013.

APC (Unit 4)

1.34% increase to base pay for eligible employees. The increase will be reflected in the November pay warrant issued December 1, 2013.

CSUEU (Units 2, 5, 7 and 9)

1.34% increase to base pay for eligible employees. We are awaiting the final word as to when this will be put into the payroll system and in which paycheck it will appear.

UAPD (Unit 1), SETC (Unit 6) and SUPA (Unit 8)

The Chancellor's Office is still working with these unions and has not informed us of any agreements at this time.

HR Drop Box
New HR Drop Box

In the spirit of helping and caring, we are pleased to unveil the Human Resources Drop Box. It is conveniently located on the first floor of the UPD building next to the elevator. The box will be checked Monday through Friday, twice a day, at 9:00am and 4:00pm.

2013 Wage and Tax Statements (W-2)

In January 2014, the State Controller's Office (SCO) will mail the 2013 W-2 form to employees at the mailing address on file with Human Resources. If you have had an address change during 2013, please revise your personal information in PeopleSoft to ensure it reflects your current mailing address by December 13, 2013.

Absence Management

To ensure accurate and timely pay on the January 2, 2014 payday, all absences for both salaried and hourly employees must be entered and approved no later than 12:00pm on Monday, December 23, 2013.

Campus Closure

The campus will be closed from December 25, 2013 through January 1, 2014. During this period there is one day, December 31, that is not covered by holidays occurring during that time or moved from earlier in the year.

Collective bargaining agreements indicate that employees shall be permitted to use Vacation, CTO or Personal Holiday when the President closes the campus and there are insufficient holidays to cover the closure. You should work with your manager on how you will use your leave to cover this day.

Non Exempt Bargaining Unit Employees

If you do not have enough vacation or CTO and have already used your Personal Holiday, or wish to save your leave for a later date, you may choose to be docked. If you do not have enough leave, you must coordinate overtime work with your manager in order to accumulate adequate CTO to cover the closure day.

Exempt Bargaining Unit Employees (other than 12-month faculty)

If you wish to save your leave for a later date, you will be required to work on the closure day. You must make your intention known to your manager prior to the closure so that he or she can ensure that the assigned work has been completed.

MPP/Confidential/12-month Faculty

You are required to use leave for this date.

While there are no HR101 classes scheduled for December, you do have other training options. LifeMatters, SJSU's new employee assistance program, offers a wide variety of articles, webinars and videos. Visit LifeMatters for more information. The company password is "spartans".

Leave Program Manager

Leaves of Absences are often complex. In response to this and the growing number of leaves, HR is pleased to welcome Kim Wilcott as our Leave Program Manager. Kim started on December 2 and is responsible for managing all aspects of the campus leave programs, including FMLA, Non-Industrial Disability and Leave Without Pay. Another function of this position is to ensure that processes, procedures and applicable federal and state laws are followed. Kim will provide expert advice and guidance to employees and managers throughout the leave process. She will work with employees, managers, health care providers and third-party vendors to ensure a smooth transition back to work.
