Helping and Caring As We Welcome Our New Employees
Human Resources is launching an updated New Employee Orientation on May 1. Previously conducted as a one-on-one meeting with a Personnel Services representative, the New Employee Orientation will now be held weekly for all new SJSU benefits eligible employees.
Our goal is to welcome new employees by giving them important information they need on their very first day. In alignment with the University's strategic goal of helping and caring, we will welcome them to San Jose State and inform them about the functions and resources of Human Resources. We will also let them know about some of the perks they can enjoy as an employee of SJSU such as the tuition fee waiver program, services provided by Transportation Solutions and on-campus dining options from Spartan Shops. After the presentation, new employees will have an opportunity to go on a campus tour.
New employees will also attend Spartan 101, formerly the New Employee Welcome, a half-day session where they will delve deeper into the University's mission and Vision 2017. They will have a chance to meet other new Spartans and gain a better understanding of the University as an organization. Guest speakers from UPD, Athletics and the Office of Equal Opportunity will also be on hand to provide them with other relevant information.
Spotlight On Recruiting
In the last year, Human Resources reviewed our recruiting processes and rolled out several changes to help you get new employees on board in a more effective and efficient manner. Some of those changes include:
- Redesigned online approval process
- Removal of requirement to submit interview questions for review
- Relaxed requirement of submitting application and interview evaluations - you may use your own spreadsheet now instead of using our forms.
As with all processes in HR, we encourage you to contact our staff to talk through your plans before taking any action. The Workforce Planning team is happy to assist you with all of your recruiting needs. Need more information? The staff of Workforce Planning will come to you to discuss and plan your specific needs.
We look forward to working with you.
