November 4, 2010 - Task: Determine GE Completeness

Good afternoon,

In order to give you the most options in class choice for Spring 2011 registration, it is important to know if you've completed all of your GE requirements. Your transfer classes will populate in your degree progress report on MySJSU (look here to learn how to get to it http://my.sjsu.edu/students/help/QR_SR_SS_View_Degree_Progress_Report/index.htm), but they may not show for up to two semesters.

Please download and fill out the GE worksheet attached to this email.

Filling it out:
-If your degree progress report already has your lower division GE courses, simply copy that information into the worksheet.

-If it has not yet fully populated (meaning your lower division GE areas are empty), you can find which classes you took at your previous institution count for our GEs by using the SJSU Articulation website: http://artic.sjsu.edu/
Learn how to use this website here: http://www.sjsu.edu/advising/articulation/

-If you have questions after trying to fill out the worksheet (or if you think your degree progress report is incorrect), please make an appointment with any advisor in our department by calling 408-924-2129

Turning it in:
You can send your information in an email (button at the top of the sheet), or you can print it out and turn it in to the Peer Advisor at the front desk of AARS. Let them know your PA is Pam.

**Remember to keep a copy for yourself in order to better plan which classes to take next semester!**

If you completed and have a copy of a CSU GE Breadth worksheet or IGETC from your Community College, you may bring a copy of that in lieu of the attached worksheet.

Due Date: This task is due by Wednesday, November 24, 2010.

Thanks, and let us know if you have any questions!

-Sara, Andrea and Pam

October 8, 2010 - How to Change Your Major

Good Morning,

This email will have information regarding changing your major, so please read through carefully.

We have a webpage! Find the information from all our emails (in case you accidentally deleted one), upcoming events, office hours and other helpful information at http://sjsu.edu/advising/assignedundeclared/sara_andrea/index.htm

You will be required to be in contact with us until you have successfully declared your major.

  • If you already have already turned in a Change of major petition, please let us know (if you have not already). As soon as your major has been updated in MySJSU, we will take you off our list and you will not need to meet with us again.
  • If you have a Change of Major petition signed by your intended major department and have not yet turned it in, please come in during your Peer Advisor (PA), Pam's office hours (below) to show us the petition before you turn it in, and we will take you off our list at that time.

If you want to know HOW to apply to declare your major, you can read information at the Advising Hub: http://www.sjsu.edu/advising/change_of_major/

Before you bring your Change of Major form to Window R in the Student Services Center, you will need to show Pam your form.

If at any point you need to bring in a document to show Pam, you can do so during her Office Hours:
Tuesday: 1-2pm
Thursday: 11am-12pm
Friday: 11am-12pm

We are located in the bottom level of the North (10th St.) Parking Garage, in the Student Services Center up the ramp to the right as you enter the building. Please see the student assistants at the front desk at "Academic Advising" and let them know you want to see your PA, Pam.

There are a couple events next week on campus that may be of interest to you:

  • Undeclared Transfer Expo - Thursday, October 14th from 11:00am-1:00pm, Location: Engineering Building, room 285. Meet with department representatives, talk with career consultants and counselors, learn about other majors, minor and career paths.
  • Impaction Panel - Monday, October 11, 2010 at 5pm-5:50pm
  • Location: Morris Daily Hall

As a reminder, failure to communicate with us can and will result in a registration hold for Spring 2011 or administrative academic probation.

Thanks, and have a great weekend!
-Sara, Andrea and Pam

October 8, 2010 - WST Task for Undeclared Students

Good afternoon,

It appears that you have not yet passed the Writing Skills Test (WST). In order to take your upper division General Education, you need to pass the WST. As part of your Undeclared advising, we are asking you to take the WST so that you have better class selection in your future semesters.

The next WST is on November 13, 2010 - https://testing.sjsu.edu/twst.html

Registration
For the 11/13 test date, you must register by October 21, 2010. You can register and pay the $25 fee on the testing website here - https://testing.sjsu.edu/twstrgi.html or you can sign up in the Student Services Center.

Preparation
Many students have trouble passing the WST. We recommend you utilize the many free writing resources available to you listed here - https://testing.sjsu.edu/twstprep.html

Once you are registered for the WST, you will need to show proof to Pam during her office hours.
