Major Change Department Requirements

Due to impaction, departments have requirements you must meet in order to declare their major. Below find a list of links to college and department webpages containing their admission requirements. If the major you wish to apply to is not listed below, please contact the major's department office to learn more about their requirements.
NOTE: Only websites that include sjsu.edu are official websites. Websites ending in .com or .org are not official university websites.

Science
- Chemistry - No additional criteria. Departmental approval.
- Geology - No additional criteria. Departmental approval.
- Math - 1) A C- or better in Calculus I (Math 30 or Math 30P) or AP credit for Calculus I; 2) A C- or better in Discrete Math (Math 42); 3) A 2.0 GPA or higher in all mathematics courses taken, Precalculus (Math 19) and above.
- Meteorology - No additional criteria. Departmental approval.
- Physics - No additional criteria. Departmental approval.
