Junior Advising
Junior Transfer Students
- Attend a mandatory Transfer Information Program (TIP) session before your first semester. You will meet with a major advisor and GE advisor to get your questions answered, as well as gain invaluable information about resources available to you on campus.
- Consider taking Science 90T - a course for transfer student to help get oriented to SJSU and college life.
- Set up an appointment with a major advisor to see which courses you should take for your major. Be sure to prepare for your advising appointment.
- Visit Academic Advising & Retention Services Transfer Student webpage for information about you transfer credit and how it applies to SJSU, completing your university requirements, and more!
- Take the WST after completing ENGL 1B so that you are able to enroll in upper division GE courses.
- Attend Student Success Programs on campus to aid in your success as a SJSU student. Topics include: Time Management, Note Taking, Major/Career Exploration, Alcohol & Drugs, Money Management, Healthy Living, Stress, Test Taking, and more!
- Take a trip to the Career Center to learn about choosing a career path, finding a job on or off campus, and obtaining an internship to get hands on experience in the field you are thinking of pursuing.
- Get involved with an organization on campus. It's a great way to meet fellow students and to keep sane during the stresses of college life!
- Make your way around the campus to get acclimated to the campus culture and to find and utilize the resources available to you as a student.
- If you would like to study abroad, visit the Study Abroad office ASAP after you arrive on campus to learn about options to globalize your learning while completing required classes.
- Consider participating in Community/Service Learning through San Jose State to develop social responsibility and give back to our community.
- If it is a spring semester, attend spring Career Fairs to search for summer jobs and internships to gain valuable skills for future classwork and jobs.
- Check out the glossary to learn more about terms you may be unfamiliar with on the SJSU campus.
- Use the catalog, Department Roadmaps, and your Degree Progress Audit to check where you are and which requirements remain at least once a semester.
- Become familiar with Undergraduate Graduation Requirements.
Continuing Juniors

- If you are considering graduate school, begin researching options and keep track of application dates and deadlines.
- Consider participating in Community/Service Learning through San Jose State to develop social responsibility and give back to our community.
- Apply for graduation as soon as possible after reaching 90 units. Timely application means that you will receive your official Graduation Worksheet in time to plan your last semester classes.
- If it is a spring semester, attend spring Career Fairs to search for summer jobs and internships to gain valuable skills for future classwork and jobs.
