IMPORTANT DISABLED PARKING NOTICE - February 2013:
The University has been found to be out of compliance by the CA Department of Motor Vehicles in our current practice of issuing temporary disabled parking. Therefore, as of July 1, 2013, only vehicles with DMV placards (permanent and temporary) will be authorized to park in SJSU disabled parking stalls. Parking Services and EARC is recommending employees obtain a DMV permit if you continue to need parking accommodations. DMV permit and application information can be found at the following link: http://www.dmv.ca.gov/vr/disabled.htm. Should you have any questions, please contact Parking Services at 408-924-6556 or email@example.com. The following information applies to disabled parking policies/procedures prior to July 1, 2013.
Accessible parking spaces are provided throughout the San Jose State University (SJSU) campus. SJSU parking permits are required when using these spaces. Accessible parking spaces can be located using the SJSU campus map.
Students and visitors to San Jose State University who wish to park in a marked disabled parking space on campus must have one of the following:
- A DMV issued disabled parking placard (blue or red)
- DMV issued disabled parking license plates
Persons who have one of the above must also display a current paid SJSU parking permit when parking in SJSU parking stalls. Failure to display both items properly as described in SJSU’s Parking Regulations will result in a parking citation from SJSU Parking Services. Please also refer to the SJSU Parking Services website for complete details on SJSU parking regulations.
Individuals with disabilities who have not purchased an SJSU permit may purchase a Single Day Parking Permit at the Parking Services Office or at one of the automated pay stations in the North, South, and West garages or in Lot 4.
Note that some of the disabled parking stalls identified on the SJSU campus map are San Jose City regulated. When parking in San Jose City regulated disabled parking, SJSU disabled parking permits are NOT VALID and San Jose City parking regulations apply.
If any employee with a disability, student, or visitor will not be the primary driver, the driver must be with the disabled person at all times and may not park without the accompaniment of the disabled person.
Access the Disabled Parking Lot at 7th Street & San Fernando
A key card is necessary to gain access to Lot #1 located at 7th & San Fernando. To apply for a key card, students, faculty and staff must submit an application to Traffic and Parking Operations located in the South (7th) Street Garage; applications may be obtained in the AEC or at Traffic and Parking Operations. AEC is unable to accept applications or issue keys. If you have not yet obtained an access card, disabled parking is available in Lot 3 (between Engineering and Industrial Studies), in the 7th Street Garage, or the West (4th) Street Garage.
If you have obtained a key card, but the electronic gate malfunctions, or if you have a legitimate need to enter the lot, dial "444" to be connected to the AEC or use the intercom on the gate to contact the University Police Department (UPD).
Please contact the UPD at (408) 924-2222 with questions or concerns.
