Brian Bates has worked with San José State University alumni since January 2007 and was named executive director of the SJSU Alumni Association in August 2011.
He's passionate about building pride in San José State university and engaging more alumni. "I believe San José State alumni are powering Silicon Valley, and we have to spread the word. From small business owners to teachers to titans of technology, Spartans are everywhere," Bates said. "It's our opportunity to engage alumni as members and in the life of the university."
Brian is a life member of the Alumni Association. He is also a member of the Council for the Advancement and Support of Education and the California Society of Association Executives. As executive director of the Alumni Association, he serves as one of the university's representatives to the California State University Alumni Council and serves on the organization's finance committee. In 2010, he was named a Robert W. Forman Fellow by the Council of Alumni Association Executives and conducted research on data mining.
A loyal Spartan and avid sports fan, Bates also volunteers on the game management crew at SJSU baseball and basketball games.
