About Carolyn
Carolyn was elected to the San Jose State Alumni Association Board in October of 2003.
After receiving her BA in Physical Education in 1970 and her Teaching Credential in
1971 from San Jose State she was awarded a MS in Physical Education from Washington
State University in 1972. She began her teaching career at Leigh High School in Campbell.
She then moved onto a teaching and coaching position at Cal Poly Pomona for two years.
Carolyn returned to SJSU in 1975 with a joint position in Women’s Physical Education
and Women’s Athletics. She coached both Women’s Basketball and Women’s Field Hockey
and eventually retired in November of 2003 as the Senior Associate Athletic Director.
During her professional career at SJSU, she served as the United States Field Hockey
Association’s Vice President of Administration, was a coaching member of the Women’s
Field Hockey National Squad, and developed the SJSU Student-Athlete Support Service
Unit and initiated the Student-Advisory Council. She also served on the NCAA Women’s
Gymnastics Committee, the San Jose Sports Authority Hall-of-Fame Selection Committee,
the Greater San Jose After-School All-Stars Board, and the Monterey High School Sports
and Recreation (SPARC) Academy Advisory Board.
In retirement, she continues her volunteer service activities which include coach
of the Pacific Collegiate School Girls’ Basketball team (2004-2007); volunteer docent
at Seacliff State Beach (Aptos); Board member of the following organizations: the
Santa Cruz Chapter of the SJSU Alumni Association, the SJSU Order of Sparta (Alumni
Athletes), and the Monterey High School SPARC Academy Advisory Board. She is also
the current Treasurer of the Trout Gulch Mutual Water Company.
