Coleetta McElroy
vice president for programs
Coleetta McElroy is currently the Director of Financial Aid and Scholarships in the
San José State University Financial Aid and Scholarship Office. Coleetta’s focus as
an administrator is on providing quality service within a continuous-learning environment.
After several years as a Financial Aid Counselor herself, Coleetta was promoted to
the position of Assistant Director for the Counseling and Advising Staffs in the SJSU
Financial Aid Office. She held this position for eleven years until her appointment
to the Director position.
Coleetta began her career at Charles R. Drew Medical Center in Los Angeles in the
capacity of Financial Aid Coordinator and, then, became the Assistant Director of
Financial Aid at the DeVry Institute of Technology in Southern California. From DeVry,
she came to the Financial Aid Office at San Jose State University in 1988.
While at San Jose State, Coleetta has received various awards, including the SJSU
Division of Student Affairs Outstanding Service Award and two SJSU Performance Service
Recognition Awards, which were awarded in recognition of her strong commitment to
students and many contributions to the university.
Coleetta graduated from Long Beach State University with a degree in Business Management,
where she become a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. She received a master’s
degree in Public Administration from San José State University in 1997, for which
she was inducted into the Pi Alpha Alpha Honor Society.
During my tenure as Vice President of Programs, I want to support the overall mission
of the SJSU Alumni Association by meeting the following objectives:
- To have the SJSU Alumni Association be considered an essential resource to our graduates by providing networking opportunities, professional development activities and provide the opportunity to contribute through active participation.
- Increase the visibility of the Association through various programs to create an awareness and connectivity for current and prospective graduates.
