Doctor of Philosophy, University of California - Berkeley, CA
Bachelor of Arts in English, University of Wisconsin, WI

Dr. Christy Junkerman earned a BA in English from the University of Wisconsin, Madison, and a PhD from the University of California, Berkeley. She teaches late medieval and early modern Italian art and the introductory theory course, and is also the Coordinator of the 100W course for the School of Art and Design. Her dissertation, an interdisciplinary study of early sixteenth-century Venetian half-length paintings of women who were probably courtesans, examined this large group of paintings from the standpoints of social history, rhetoric, lyric poetry and the paragone between painting and poetry. Research and teaching interests also include gender studies, the history of the body, the construction of erotic art in the Renaissance and the history of the artist.

Dr. Junkerman has taught in the Department of Art History at UC Berkeley, in the Art Department at Stanford University and recently in the International Summer School at Sook Myung Women’s University in Seoul, Korea. She regularly teaches Renaissance Italian art courses for the Stanford Continuing Studies Program and has traveled many times to Italy and France as a lecturer for the Travel/Study program of the Stanford Alumni Association.
