Dr. Jan Thompson was the fourth doctorate in Art History that was granted by Rutgers
University. She has held such exciting jobs as: Cataloguing Librarian, Fogg Art Museum,
Harvard University;
Curator of Exhibitis at the Buffalo and Erie County Historical Museum; Lecturer to
Docents at both the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art and the Fine Arts Museums of
San Francisco. She has been teaching at SJSU since summer, 1987. Her teaching positions
have included Canisius College, Union College, Santa Clara University, and Stanford
University, Continuing Studies. Courses she has taught includes the Survery of Western
Art, Prehistoric to Contemporary, Contemporary Art, History of Women in Art, Nineteenth
Century Art, Survey of the History of Design, Early Modern and Later Modern Art, and
"Fashionology" - A History of Dress in Art.
When not cleaned up and at SJSU, Dr. Thompson is riding, feeding, and otherwise tending to her two horses, who are both scary smart and like to sit on laps.
