TS helps alleviate automobile traffic to SJSU and reduce impact on the University’s parking facilities. Transportation Solutions is dedicated to serve the commute needs of the students and employees of SJSU. Its region-wide operation emphysizes alternatives to driving alone. 

SmartPass Clipper

With the Associated Students SmartPass Clipper card and SJSU Tower Card, students and employees can have unlimited free rides on Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority (VTA) Local & Rapid buses, Limited routes, and Light Rail lines. The SmartPass Express bus riders can board Express buses by paying a surcharge of $2.50 per ride as E-cash loaded on the SmartPass Clipper card.

Regional Transit

Altamont Corridor Express (ACE)

Altamont Corridor Express (ACE) is a rail service from the Central Valley (Stockton, Lathrop/Manteca, Tracy) and the East Bay (Livermore, Pleasanton, Fremont) to San Jose Diridon Train Station. From the Diridon station you can hop on DASH (free Downtown Area Shuttle) to the west edge of campus on 4th Street.

ACE operates four round trip trains daily (primarily during the commute hours). Click here to view the ACE train schedule.

SJSU students and employees may purchase ACE monthly passes and 20-ride tickets at a 50% discount. View the ACE Prices [PDF] here. These tickets are only available at the AS General Services Center - Cash only.

Highway 17 Express Bus

Highway 17 Express Bus provides service between downtown Santa Cruz (Metro Center), Scotts Valley, and San Jose State University (San Fernando Street by 7th Street). Service is offered 7 days a week. On weekends, service is available from San Jose Diridon Station only. Travel time is about 1 hour and 10 minutes between SJSU and the Metro Center.

Caltrain is a regional rail line serving San Francisco, San Jose, Gilroy, and stations in between. View fares here. There are no Caltrain discounts for SJSU students or employees. Click here to access weekly train schedules.

Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART)

BART (Bay Area Rapid Transit) is a heavy rail system serving the East Bay, San Francisco, north Peninsula and SFO. There is no special discount for SJSU students and employees.
Access to SJSU from BART:
The nearest BART station from SJSU is the Warm Springs/ South Fremont station.
VTA Express Bus 181 provides connection between SJSU and Warm Springs/South Fremont BART station. In addition, BART connects with Caltrain at Millbrae.

You can park your bike in any one of the six Bicycle Enclosures operated by Transportation Solutions for free, or in any open bike rack provided adjacent to most campus buildings. To park inside Bicycle Enclosures, sign up for an access key at the Transportation Solutions center. You will need to bring your SJSU Tower Card ID and $10 refundable deposit for the access key.


To help SJSU students and employees find carpool partners, Transportation Solutions (TS) provides online carpool matching service through 511 SF Bay RideMatch Service and its carpool Apps.

VTA Park & Ride Lots

Park free at any of VTA's Park and Ride lots and take light rail to SJSU, using your SmartPass Clipper. The SJSU stop is the Paseo de San Antonio Station. 1st Street for northbound trains toward Mountain View and Alum Rock and 2nd street for southbound trains toward Winchester and Santa Teresa.
