Migration to Digital Video

Migration to Digital Video

As San Jose State University is striving to adapt to changes in technology in the classroom, we will be focusing on moving video to online formats, rather than through cable to the classroom. Increased bandwidth gives us the possibility of allowing faculty and students to view video both in and outside of the classroom over the web ; a clear benefit to only being available at a specific time in the classroom. We formerly showed about 6000 videos in the classroom per semester and now show about 500. This decrease reflects changes in pedagogy, as short YouTube and other web-based videos have become more popular in the classroom and formerly viewed videotapes have become outdated. Due to these changes in technology and pedagogy, Classroom Technology Support will be transferring their DVD/video collection to on-line delivery, shutting down their cable service, and also discontinuing the call-in preview service at Media Services in January 2014.

We will need faculty to help us with this process. Please access the Procedure For Video Migration page to learn more.
