Media Hosting


Our streaming media hosting services allow your video and/or audio content to be viewed over the world wide web and SJSU network at any time.

Primary hosting media format:

  • Real Media

Standard speeds:

  • 56k
  • 384k (DSL)

Media file naming requirements and conventions:

  • Media file naming requirements
    1. File information should include file name and current date.
    2. File name should be abbreviated, 25 letters maximum or 5 letters minimum not including date.
    3. All letters should be lowercase with no spaces in between.
    4. Date should be double digit numbers and no spaces.
    5. For multiple files, add p1 for Part I, p2 for Part II, etc...after the file name and date.
    6. For multiple speeds, add 56k or dsl after the file name, date (if you have multiple files it would follow after p1, p2 etc...)
  • Media file naming conventions
    1. For class related media files use the abbreviated class name and number at the beginning of the file name. e.g. phil160, nurs104.
    2. For non-class related media files use the authors last name and first initial at the beginning of the file name. e.g. For Will Smith, use smithw.

Renewal Procedure

Files are kept active from launch date to the end of the academic year ( June 30). Renewal request period is from the beginning of June to the end of July. All inactive files will be removed from the streaming server and archived on a DVD disc.

Request/Renewal Guide

Below is the procedure to request hosting services or renew your files.

    1. Click here for the Service Request Form
    2. Fill out all of the "Client Info" fields.
    3. Under "Delivery Mode Request" select Hosted Streamed Media.
    4. Under "Special Request" box list your file name info, start date and end date.
    5. In filling out the form, do not use punctuation marks and non-letter text as it will reject your Work Request submission.

Media Hosting Delivery

Bring your media files to the IRC building room 310 on a CD or DVD disk or e-mail to atn@sjsu.edu and dave.taddei@sjsu.edu
