Macintosh Webcasting Support - Setup


Follow the steps below.

Step One: Computer Hardware and Software Requirements

Step Two: Important Browser Requirements

For Live and Archived Classes and Events Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.0 or higher is required . Live Classes can ONLY be viewed using Microsoft Internet Explorer and Mozilla firefox.

DO NOT use any customized Browsers such as "AOL Internet Explorer or Earthlink Internet Explorer or AOL Netscape". They will not work with our streamed videos.

Step Three: Download Real Player

Step Four: Test RealOne Player or RealPlayer 8

Test your RealPlayer by clicking on the video stream links below:

A Successful Test

If the test was successful go back to the Webcasting main page and begin viewing your live and/or archived classes.

A Failed Test

For OS X users please go to the RealPlayer support page provided below:

For OS 9 users go to Step Five below.

Step Five: Configure Microsoft Internet Explorer Browser for RealPlayer:

If RealPlayer 8 does not start when you click a RealMedia link, you must manually configure your web browser as follows:

Configure the web browser by doing the following

  1. Start Internet Explorer after you have installed RealPlayer.
  2. Click the Explorer (or Edit) menu and select Preferences.
  3. Click on the triangle next to Receiving Files to expand the list of options.
  4. Click File Helpers.
  5. Click the Add button. The Edit File Helper dialog box opens up.
  6. Edit File Helper Browser Configuration-
    Enter the following information in each of the respective sections of the dialog box:
    • Representation
      Description: RealMedia File
      Extension: .rm
      MIME type: application/vnd.rn-realmedia
    • File Type
      Application: Click the Browse button to locate the RealPlayer icon on the hard drive and/or desktop. Select the icon and click Open.
      File type: Enter PNRA in this field.
      File Creator: Enter PNst in this field.
      Encoding: Confirm that the Binary data option is checked. Also confirm that Use for incoming and Use for outgoing options are checked.
    • Download Destination
      Download to: Select the Download Folder option.
    • Handling
      How to Handle: Select the Post-Process with Application option from the drop-down menu.
      Browse: Click the Browse button to locate the RealPlayer icon on the hard drive and/or desktop. Select the icon and click Open.
  7. Click OK on the Edit File Helper dialog box to close it.
  8. Click OK.
  9. Repeat steps 5-8 for each of the following file types and descriptions-
    (Information to be entered in the other sections remains the same as in step 6)
    Description: RealAudio Clip
    Extension: .ra
    MIME type: audio/vnd.rn-realaudio
    Description: RealVideo Clip
    Extension: .rv
    MIME type: video/vnd.rn-realvideo
    Description: RealPlayer File
    Extension: .rmm, .ram
    MIME Type: audio/x-pn-realaudio
  10. Restart the computer.
  11. Now test your RealPlayer. (Go to Step Four above)
