Releasing Advising Holds

To insure that a BSSE student doesn't take an ill-advised course, an advising hold is placed on his or her record every semester. This advising hold must be released before the student can participate in Advanced Registration for the next semester.

The Procedure

To release an advising hold a student must:

  1. Download and fill out the Advising Hold Release Form (doc)
  2. Insure that the courses listed on this form are needed for the BSSE degree. (See BSSE Course Requirements for this information.)
  3. Insure that all prerequisites for the courses listed on this form have been met. (See the Major and Supporting Prerequisites Graphs for this information.)
  4. Insure that all courses listed on the form will actually be offered in the next semester. (See the Schedule of Classes for this information.)
  5. Insure that the number of courses listed is appropriate (not too many, not too few).
  6. Bring the filled out form to the BSSE Advisor to be signed.
  7. Bring the signed form to the Computer Science or Computer Engineering Office (ask the BSSE advisor which one) to have the hold released.

Notes

  1. Only the BSSE Advisor can sign the Advising Hold Release Form.
  2. Like most faculty members, the BSSE Advisor may not hold office hours after the end of the semester. This means it is important to get the Advising Hold Release Form signed before the end of the semester.
  3. The above procedure must be followed Every Semester!
  4. Unforseen circumstances might necessitate a student signing up for courses different from the courses listed on the release form. In this case a student should simply inform the BSSE Advisor of the changes.
