Student Fee FAQs

 

I just reviewed my account, and I don't understand what the campus fees represent. Can you explain them?

I am covered by my employer's or parent's health plan. Do I need to pay the health service fee?

Yes. Students still need to pay the health service fee, even if they are covered by another health insurance plan.

I don't use and will never use the Student Health Center. Do I need to pay the health service fee?

Yes. Students still need to pay the health service fee, even if they do not use the Student Health Center.

What's the procedure for the establishment and abolishment of a student body fee?

The law governing the CSU provides that a student body fee may be established by a student referendum with the approval of 2/3 of those students voting. The same fee can be abolished by a similar 2/3 approval of students voting on a referendum called for by a petition signed by 10% of the regularly enrolled students (Education Code, Section 89300.

The Chancellor sets the level of the fee. The Chancellor may approve an increase in the student body fee only following a referendum on the fee increase approved by the majority of students voting.

I didn't vote for this health service fee. Do I need to pay this?

Yes. Students still need to pay the health service fee, even if they did not vote for it.

I drive everyday to school and I will buy a parking permit. Do I need to pay the transit fee?

Yes. Students still need to pay the transit fee, even if they do not use public transit.

Whom should I make my check payable to?

Do I need to pay all registration fees?

Yes, all campus fees are mandatory.

Can I get a waiver from paying the application fee?

The application fee may be waived for a limited number of applicants from low-income families for whom payment would be an undue financial hardship.

If you believe you qualify, the fee waiver request can be found within the application via CSUMentor only. You will be able to see this waiver request when you apply online.

Note: Once you have completed and submitted the CSU application online, you cannot go back to change this information with regard to the waiver request.
