The Bursar’s Office reports tuition billed to students enrolled at San José State University to the Internal Revenue Service each year. The billed tuition amount is reported on the 1098-T Tuition Statement
form.
This dollar amount includes eligible tuition and fees billed on or after January 1 and on or before December 31 of the tax year. It does not include books, room and board, student activities, athletics (unless the course is part of the degree program), insurance, equipment, transportation, or other similar personal, living or family expenses.
Through the Taxpayer Relief Act, taxpayers may claim a credit against their federal income taxes for certain educational expenses if the student qualifies for the Hope Scholarship Tax Credit or Lifetime Learning Tax Credit.
