The Bursar’s Office reports tuition billed (charged) to students enrolled at SJSU to the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) each year. The billed tuition amount is reported on the 1098-T Tuition Statement form. This dollar amount includes eligible tuition and fees billed on or after January 1 and on or before December 31 of the tax year.

Through the Taxpayer Relief Act, taxpayers may claim a credit against their federal income taxes for certain educational expenses if the student qualifies for the American Opportunity Tax Credit or Lifetime Learning Tax Credit. More information is available in the IRS Publication 970 Tax Benefits for Education.
