Educational assessment is the process of documenting, usually in measurable terms, knowledge, skills, attitudes and beliefs. Assessment can focus on the individual learner, the learning community (class, workshop, or other organized group of learners), the institution, or the educational system as a whole (Wikipedia). Assessment of community learning at both the national and institutional level is subject to the variations of academic disciplines and course learning outcomes. CCLL refers to the National Service-Learning Clearinghouse on Higher Education . You may wish to modify sample materials to reflect the course competencies, activities, workload and other requirements unique to the course and community partnership.
CommUniverCity-San Jose, in conjunction with SJSU's Survey & Policy Research Institute created in 2010 a post-test for students performing service-learning in the CommUniverCity neighborhoods through various classes, projects, or partner organizations. CCLL welcomes assisting with assessment of community learning at SJSU.
