About AmeriCorps Bridging Borders

The Bridging Borders AmeriCorps Project is a collaborative national service effort between San José State University, community organizations and public schools to address the needs of immigrant families in Santa Clara County.

Approximately 34% of county residents are foreign-born and 60% are either immigrants or their children. Immigrant families are at-risk of having many unmet needs in the areas of health, education, social, economic and legal services. In many cases, limited English proficiency inhibits immigrants from receiving information, interacting with the community and handling their own everyday activities.

If you serve a term of national service with Bridging Borders AmeriCorps you will be challenged to respond to these unmet needs. The purpose and vision of your service will be to help low-income, limited English speaking immigrants and their families adapt successfully to U.S. society and to become self-sufficient, active participants in the community.
