Super Service Spotlight
Jay Wang, AmeriCorps Community Educator serving immigrant elders through Project SHINE (Students Helping in the Naturalization of Elders), has shown outstanding dedication to his AmeriCorps service. Despite the demands of a full class schedule, Jay has managed to provide consistent and effective tutoring to the elderly ESL and citizenship learners he serves at Casa del Pueblo and John XXIII Multi-Service Center, even throughout winter and spring breaks! Jay's learners, many of whom plan to take the U.S. Citizenship exam in the very near future, describe him as "motivated and meticulous." Many of Jay's seniors described the usefulness of the practice Jay provided. "Jay truly trained us from every angle," one learner wrote. Jay "Provides a lot of help to prepare me for naturalization interview and U.S. society," wrote another. Jay has done an amazing job helping to make American society, history, and language understandable to over 20 senior immigrants since starting his service in September 2004. Jay is an outstanding community educator and we thank him for GETTING THINGS DONE! |
