The Disaster Resistant California Conference Series promotes partnerships and collaborations in an effort to reduce the vulnerabilities of communities to natural and human-caused disasters.
This unique conference is an exciting and highly dynamic exploration of disaster mitigation, planning, preparedness, response and recovery. This Conference brings together emergency management professionals, local, state and federal government representatives, private business partners, service providers, manufacturers, technologies and academicians together, to share ideas, technology and resources for the purpose of reducing the consequences of disasters ˇV in other words, to mitigate disasters.
This Conference is also multi-disciplinary and seeks to integrate the various disciplines involved in disaster mitigation so that a holistic approach can be fostered and developed.
Focusing on the importance of disaster resistant communities, the conferenceˇ¦s presentations, displays, and demonstrations will emphasize successful systems, technologies, and strategies to implement hazard mitigation measures and programs. There will continue to be a diverse representation of vendors and exhibitors from the public and private sectors on-site to showcase the latest development in emergency management products.
Papers emphasizing the overall theme of implementing mitigation to reduce the impact of disasters are invited. Suggested topics include, but are not limited to:
- Integration issues related to mutual aid systems
- New initiatives in volunteerism
- Issues related to hospitals, health care and disaster medicine
- Emergency preparedness of schools
- Risks management and insurance
- Technology developments and applications for disaster reduction
- International cooperation in disaster mitigation
- Hazard mitigation planning
- Cost benefit analysis
- Business resumption and continuity planning
- Mental health issues
- Issues pertaining to vulnerable populations
- Victim services and service delivery models
- Integrating natural hazards and homeland security
Papers in other areas that are related to multi-hazard mitigation, response and recovery will also be considered. All presenting authors must be registered conference participants.
The deadline for receipt of one-page (250 words maximum) abstracts is November 19, 2004. Please follow the abstract guidelines. Potential authors will be notified of acceptance/rejection of their abstracts by December 17, 2004. For accepted abstracts, the deadline for the full-length paper is February 21, 2005.
