Local Programs in Silicon Valley
California Conservation Corps is one of the oldest, largest & longest working conservation corps in the world which works on a mission to protect and restore California's environment and responding to disasters, making stronger workers, citizens and individuals through their service.
The Campaign to Cut Poverty in Santa Clara County is a community-based initiative that includes community-based organizations, the public sector, faith communities and businesses. In response to the growing social and moral crisis of poverty, Catholic Charities USA launched this campaign in 2007 to reduce poverty by 50% by the year 2020. Focus areas are: food, housing, health, education and income/employment.
Veggielution is an urban project carried out by a nonprofit organization “Veggielution Community Farm” that has mission to empower youth and adults from diverse backgrounds to create a sustainable food system in San Jose.
National Service Programs
AmeriCorps is an opportunity to make a big difference in one's life by giving chances to apply one's skills and ideals toward helping others and meeting critical needs in the community. Each year, AmeriCorps offers 75,000 opportunities for adults of all ages and backgrounds to serve through a network of partnerships with local and national nonprofit groups.
AmeriCorps VISTA (Volunteers in Service to America) provides full-time members to nonprofit, faith-based and other community organizations, and public agencies to create and expand programs that bring low-income individuals and communities out of poverty.
AmeriCorps NCCC (National Civilian Community Corps) is a full-time, team-based, residential program for men and women which working on a mission to strengthen communities and develop leaders through direct team-based national and community service. In partnership with nonprofit organizations, state and local agencies, and faith-based and other community groups, members complete service projects in all 50 states and some U.S. territories.
Learn and Serve America supports and encourages service-learning throughout the United States, and enables over one million students to make meaningful contributions to their community while building their academic and civic skills. By engaging nation's young people in service-learning, Learn and Serve America provides direct and indirect support to K-12 schools, community groups and higher education institutions to facilitate service-learning projects.
