New ChAD Students

You must be a declared major before you sign up for an advisement appointment.

The Department of Child & Adolescent Development (ChAD) does not offer general advisement before students are actually enrolled at SJSU and also declared ChAD majors. We do, however, offer our students advising year 'round to make sure that our students have the help they need when they need it. During the semester breaks and during the summer,  we have limited advisement times available so we urge you to try to make your advising appointments during the fall and spring semesters.

Very Important:  Plan to see a ChAD advisor within the first month or so after enrolling at SJSU for your first semester.  Certainly do not wait longer than the end of your first year at SJSU. To schedule an advisement appointment with Terry O'Donnell-Johnson or Janene Perez, do this:

Go to the Gradesfirst website: https://sjsu.gradesfirst.com

From your student homepage, select the blue “Get Advising” button on the right sidebar.

Follow the prompts and select the reasons for your appointment.

Choose a location for the appointment (LCOE faculty office:  LCOE is your college).

Choose a date and time that works for you.

Verify the who, what, where, why, and add comments.  Then confirm your appointment.

The appointment is now on your GradesFirst Calendar (left sidebar, calendar icon).

Take the following documents to the department office, SH 201, by Wednesday of the week prior to your appointment date:
1.  Plan A or Plan B advising form (fill out the top portion only)
2.  Unofficial transcripts of all your college work (e.g., community college, SJSU)

To help you decide what to enroll in for your first semester read about the differences between Plan A and Plan B . Be sure to notice that there are two paths through Plan B.  Notice that the plans have some requirements in common and some classes are unique to the plan.

If you need specific information about what to enroll in for your first semester before you see an advisor, read below.
