Heidi McHugh Pendleton, PhD, OTR/L, FAOTA, is a Professor and Chair of the Department of Occupational Therapy at San Jose State University. Dr. Pendleton has a long history of clinical practice, teaching experience, consultation and conducting research with older adults and the issues of aging. Her 17 years of clinical practice at Rancho Los Amigos National Rehabilitation Center included three years on the Neurology Service treating clients with CVA and two years on the Ortho Diabetes Service providing intervention for clients who were aging with diabetes and amputations. During her 22 year academic career at San Jose State University she has taught courses in Independent Living Skills for the Aging and Disabled and Occupational Therapy in Geriatric Practice. Heidi has been a Core Faculty Associate of the Stanford Geriatric Education Center since 2000. Her doctoral and subsequent research has been in the area of social relationships of women who are aging physical disabilities.

Developed and presented as part of an Interdisciplinary Panel Presentation on ethno-geriatrics. This activity was also part of the curriculum for HPRF 260, Multidisciplinary Health Promotion in Later Years. SJSU nutrition, gerontology, social work, occupational therapy, and nursing interns were invited to attend. This 2 hour training took place on 9/16/08. Ethno-geriatric web based resources were also provided for HPRF students and internship students' use.
Served as core faculty for the Stanford Geriatric Education Center since 2000 and have been part of an interdisciplinary health care team participating in educational opportunities and research in the area of ethnogeriatrics
Courses Taught: (Related to Aging)
Developed the OCTH 136 Course: Occupational Therapy in Geriatric Practice for the OT Department and taught the course for the first four years since its inception.
Previously, developed the OCTH/GERO 156 Course: Independent Living Skills for Persons with Disabilities and the Aging and taught this cross listed course for over ten years – primarily to graduate students.
