Andy Feinstein, PhD
Interim Dean, College of International & Extended Studies
Dr. Andy Feinstein is currently the Interim Dean at the College of International & Extended Studies and oversees all the Special Session programs at San José State University. He oversees International Gateways (the SJSU ESL program), Study Abroad programs, International House, International Recruitment, Professional Development programs, Open University and Special Off-Campus programs (e.g. the off-campus MBA)
For nearly six years, Dr. Feinstein has been dean and James A. Collins Distinguished Chair of The Collins College of Hospitality Management at Cal Poly Pomona. The Collins College is the first and largest hospitality program in California and ranked as one of the best in the nation. At Cal Poly Pomona, Dr. Feinstein implemented a strategic plan resulting in the elevation of the program to a college, the development of a successful self-supported master’s of science program, and the raising of more than $14.5 million in gifts. He also served as the first CSU Director of Hospitality Management Education and established the Hospitality Management Education Initiative, a partnership of 14 CSU campuses and a board of top industry leaders.
Dr. Feinstein also served as senior advisor to the president at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas and associate dean for strategic initiatives at UNLV’s Harrah Hotel College. He holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees in hotel administration from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. He received his doctoral degree from The Pennsylvania State University, where he held an academic computing fellowship.
Steve Zlotolow, PhD
Associate Dean, College of International & Extended Studies
Dr. Steve Zlotolow is currently the Associate Dean at the College of International & Extended Studies and oversees all the Special Session programs at San José State University. He received his Doctor of Philosophy at the University of Oklahoma Norman Campus in 1989. Dr. Zlotolow is a pioneer in online learning. He developed the first fully online degree program, Master's in Occupational Therapy, more than fifteen years ago. Aside from his background in Instructional Design as related to eLearning, Dr. Zlotolow developed the eCampus at SJSU and provided a mediated track to delivering instruction for faculty. Dr. Zlotolow will be retiring end of December 2013.
Ruth Huard, PhD
Interim Associate Dean, College of International & Extended Studies
Dr. Ruth Huard has been appointed Interim Associate Dean of the College of International and Extended Studies (CIES). She will begin her position on December 1, 2013.
She has over 10 years of academic and professional experience in the areas of learning sciences and technology design. Through her former role with eCampus and as the current Director of Spartans Online, she has facilitated the growth of online teaching and learning opportunities for the San José State University community.
Dr. Huard is a former professor and enjoyed teaching courses such as emerging technologies, research methods, and applied organizational communication. She received her Ph.D. from Stanford University where she conducted research on human-computer interaction and learning systems in the School of Education and in the Computer Science Department–Knowledge Systems AI Lab. While Dr. Huard is excited by emerging technologies, her interest and focus continue to be on the people that engage with the technology.
