2013 Reading Programs for Children and Adults

For an enjoyable activity with lifelong benefits, we recommend one of our eight different reading skills programs designed and taught by instructors from the Institute of Reading Development. Programs are offered through the College of International and Extended studies at San José State University.

Michael L. Conniff Baccardi Family International Professor of Latin America Studies at the University of Florida

Michael L. Conniff, former director of CIES' Silicon Valley Global Studies program, has been appointed the Baccardi Family International Professor of Latin America Studies at the University of Florida. The distinction includes a residency at the university during the 2014 spring semester. Professor Conniff will focus on Panama as part of his work there and will be joined by his wife, Ann, who is also a Latin American expert.

Hillary Evans Shares Her Experiences Working with the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime in Dushanbe, Tajikistan

San José State University’s CIES’s very own Hillary Evans was a distinguished speaker at the Western Collegiate Model United Nations (WestMUN) conference hosted by Santa Barbara City College in Santa Barbara California. On March 29, 2013, Evans spoke at the regional conference attended by Political Science and Global Studies undergraduates from all over the Western United States. (WestMUN), an annual conference give political science students the opportunity to role play as United Nations delegates, following actual United Nations procedures to make decisions on international policy. Evans, a Fulbright Scholar with academic experience from China, Russia and Tajikistan in addition to professional experience in Washington DC and San Jose State University, shared the career possibilities in the field of International Relations. Currently, she is the contract manager for the Pakistan Distance Education Enhancement Program at the Silicon Valley Center for Global Studies of SJSU Research Foundation.
