Chemical and Materials Engineering Department Mission Statement
The mission of the department is to provide the best possible academic preparation for the wide range of professional opportunities available to Chemical and Materials Engineers with an emphasis on technologies that are centered in the Bay Area.
The college mission is to educate new engineers for the new century, who are technically excellent, globally informed, and socially responsible. Graduates of our department find jobs in Silicon Valley and beyond, working as process engineers, failure analysis engineers, manufacturing engineers, plant engineers, biomedical device engineers, as well as in research and development. Our graduates can be found in all kinds of industrial sectors, including semiconductors and microelectronics, biomedical devices, biotech and pharmaceuticals, alternative energy, environmental remediation, health and safety as well as in traditional industries such as petroleum processing and metallurgy. Many of our students go onto graduate schools all over the country.
To enrich the lives of its students, to transmit knowledge to its students along with the necessary skills for applying it in the service of our society, and to expand the base of knowledge through research and scholarship.
