NewsNews about the CME SocietySan Jose State's CME Society was recognized at the Board of Trustees Meeting in March 2009.San José State's Connect Motivate Educate Society was among the campus-based foster youth programs highlighted in a recent California State University report. Nearly 500 former foster youth systemwide receive financial aid covering fees, books, supplies, transportation and living expenses. Also, CSU campus outreach staff members are assisting more than 1,400 foster youth who plan to attend college. The CME Society is listed as one of four examples of College Support programs for foster youth attending four year colleges.The Connected by 25 Initiative publication from the Finance Group a brief article entitled: Providing Support for an On-Campus Support Program in aUniversity Budget, highlights the collaborations and liaison relationship that help the CME Society serve students from foster care within a small budget. EARLY ACADEMIC PLANNING CAMPThis year's camp hosted 33 foster youth from across the state June25- through June 28th and was a great success! The camp will be the held the week of June 21-29th More details coming soon. November 7th thru 9th, 2007 CME Society and SVCF to host National Conference of Foster Youth Support Programs in Higher Education November 7-9, 2007 in Santa Clara Marriott, Santa Clara,Ca. June 2007 CME Society New Staff-Kahlila Liverpool, Education Coordinator Kahlila Liverpool, has joined the CME Society as the new Education Coordinator. Kahlila is an alumna of both CSU Monterey Bay and San Jose State University, with a Masters in Public Administration. We are very excited to have her join us as we continue to develop our CME Society at the San Jose State Campus. Johnson Foundation for 3 years A 3 year grant from the Walter S. Johnson Foundation was awarded to the Connect Motivate and Educate Society for $286,600. The grant will support an increase in support personnel for the program. January 2007 CME Society receives grant from Pottruck Family Foundation for Early Academic Planning Camp. SJSU receives $20,000 to offer 4 day camp for 8th foster youth in June 2007.
