Starting: Fall 2012
Application Deadline: March 1, 2012
The Department of Communication Studies is seeking applicants for appointment as Teaching Associates (TAs), commencing in the Fall Semester 2012. The Teaching Associate Program is designed to provide training and direct, supervised experience in college teaching for M. A. students in communication studies. Additional Teaching Associate appointments in Forensics are also available.
Teaching Associates will be assigned to teach one section of COMM 20, Public Speaking. These sections typically meet Monday and Wednesday. TAs are also required to enroll in Comm 285A (Teaching Practicum) for two units of credit in their first semester as a teaching associate; they will enroll in two units of COMM 285B in the second semester as a teaching associate. COMM 285A&B requirements include providing one solo-taught or two team-taught workshops through the COMM Center each semester. The department provides, and requires teaching associate attendance at, a one-week training workshop (five days x eight hours) in the week prior to the start of Fall semester, as well as 1-2 shorter, late afternoon or evening sessions earlier in the summer.
The application deadline for Teaching Associate positions for 2012-2013 is March 1, 2012. Students must be admitted to the Communication Studies M.A. program to serve as Teaching Associates. Decisions will be announced in April.
