Graduating with honors is a serious mark of distinction, open to no more than 10% of the graduating class.
To be eligible for honors, you must do the following:
- Have completed 22 units in the Communication Studies major
- Have a department GPA of at least 3.5
- Have an overall SJSU GPA of at least 3.0
- Take one of the department’s MA graduate-level seminars. The graduate-level course would replace one of the required courses in the undergraduate major (an F,I,P course or Comm 199 – your choice).
If you think you might be eligible for honors, fill out the application and email it to Oona Hatton, email@example.com by June 1 for fall consideration and October 1 for spring consideration.
Note that meeting the unit and GPA requirements above does not guarantee you will graduate with honors, because no more than 10% of the graduating class can receive the honors designation. Applicants will be rated according to overall GPA and those with top GPAs will receive invitations first until we have met the 10% quota.
