Self-Designed Interdisciplinary Minor

The self-designed interdisciplinary minor for Communication Studies majors gives students the option of developing a specialized minor in a specific area outside the department. To develop this minor, meet with your major advisor before registering for classes.

You must complete 18 units for the self-designed interdisciplinary minor; 12 units must be upper-division courses (100-level); no more than 6 units may fullfill your G.E. (Core G.E. and SJSU Studies) requirements.

Your self-designed interdisciplinary minor must have a theme that links together the courses you choose. Examples are:

  • international marketing
  • health and human behavior
  • culture and the environment
  • writing for new media
  • technology and organizations

Meeting with a Communication Studies advisor to plan your self-designed interdisciplinary minor will help assure your choices will meet your needs and the department's requirements.

Print out the Self-designed Interdisciplinary Minor Worksheet to keep track of the courses you take.
