When and where is the ceremony?

Saturday, May 17, 2014, 11am-1pm, Tower Hall Lawn South, with the reception to follow.

How do I sign up to participate?

You'll complete the Registration Form and submit it with your cash payment to the Communication Studies Department office, HGH 108, dates and costs to be determined.

What should I wear?

Graduating students must wear the appropriate SJSU-approved academic regalia. Purchase your bachelor's regalia (cap, gown, tassel) and master's regalia (cap, gown, hood & tassel) at the Spartan Bookstore Graduation Center (408-924-1828). The tassel color for the College of Social Sciences is cream. Don't wait until the last minute!

Is there a reception?

Yes. The reception will immediately follow the ceremony.

Who may participate?

Students receiving either a BA in Communication Studies in Fall 2013, Spring 2014 or Summer 2013. M.A. students must have completed the oral defense of their culminating experience before the ceremony.

Can I buy additional tickets? Where do I buy them?

Do I need to buy a ticket for a child who is attending?

Yes, for children over 2, you'll need a ticket. For children 2 and under who will sit on an adult's lap, no ticket is needed. 

Will tickets be available at the door?


Can I pay with check, debit, or credit card?

No, cash only.

What if my guests decide to attend the ceremony at the last minute?

They must have tickets to attend the ceremony. No one will be admitted to the ceremony or the reception without a ticket. 

What if my guests need special accommodations for seating?

If you have guests who need extra time to get seated or use a wheelchair for mobility, please contact Dr. Anne Marie Todd at so that we can arrange for appropriate seating. Also plan to arrive early.

Will there be a professional photography at the ceremony?

There will be a professional photographer taking pictures during the ceremony. This will include a photo of each graduating student as you accept your diploma. Information about purchasing these photos will be available when you check in before the ceremony.
