Thanks for asking these great questions!
Lockups will be ready in early September (yes, really!). However, we have realized that without updated usage guidelines there will be a lot of confusion. We thank you for your patience while we create our communication guidelines.
If you're looking for a replacement for SJSU's former "bricks" logo, the new primary mark is it. We're not calling it a "logo," as the primary mark is one element of an integrated visual identity system. The system is meant to be more flexible and modular to meet a broader range of needs. Complete guidelines for the usage of the system will be available in August.
We coordinate an essential group for anyone involved in communications or marketing at SJSU. The SJSU Marketing Updates group is a forum for learning about the university’s overall branding goals and initiatives, sharing advice and trading tactics. We meet every couple of months. June 30: Deadline for campus community to submit feedback for final SJSU Power Source. Thanks for all your feedback!
Fall 2014: Release of SJSU Power Source: A Multi-Platform Communication Guide. Release of InDesign templates for flyers, brochures and more. Campus unit lockups, including those for auxiliaries, created and delivered to those with existing lockups (Request a lockup). [UPDATED AUGUST 19]
Using the new communication platform and identity elements is not required. But as use of it grows, so will recognition of San Jose State.
Most lockups for colleges, departments and programs already using them will be distributed in August. Request a lockup.
Our team is working on more complete technical guidelines for using our new visual identity system. These additional elements will be including in SJSU Power Source: A Multi-Platform Communication Guide (available this fall). However, we encourage you to use our Primary Mark.
If you're working with a design vendor who needs the SJSU Spartan Typeface, please submit a request on behalf of the vendor. (You must log in to your SJSU One account to submit our web forms.)
You may now order business stationery through new vendor Officemax! [UPDATED SEPTEMBER 2]
No. Please use up business cards and other materials that have SJSU's old logo.
The visual identity system was developed through a sponsored project with the department of graphic design. That means SJSU Marketing and Communications paid a practicum class (Associate Professor Chang Kim and a group of BFA students) and those funds went directly back into the program, supporting the very students who did the work. The real-life experience these students got from the project is invaluable.
In addition, building a strong university identity will benefit the entire community by elevating SJSU's image -- and encouraging support and engagement from our many audiences.
You'll notice that SJSU's Primary Mark and tagline now appear on SJSU's homepage. We're developing the web elements that you'll need to update your template kit. Join the Marketing Updates group now to receive the latest information.
