We have just about all of the campus unit lockups completed. However, we have realized that without updated usage guidelines there will be a lot of confusion. We thank you for your patience while we create some basic guidelines.
If you're looking for a replacement for SJSU's former "bricks" logo, the new Primary Mark is it. We're not calling it a "logo," as the Primary Mark is one element of an integrated visual identity system. The system is meant to be more flexible and modular to meet a broader range of needs. Complete guidelines for the usage of the system will be available in August.
We coordinate an essential group for anyone involved in communications or marketing at SJSU. The SJSU Marketing Updates group is a forum for learning about the university’s overall branding goals and initiatives, sharing advice and trading tactics. We meet every couple of months. Using the new brand platform and identity elements is not required. But as use of it grows, so will recognition of San Jose State.

The visual identity system was developed through a sponsored project with the department of graphic design. That means SJSU Marketing and Communications paid a practicum class (Associate Professor Chang Kim and a group of BFA students) and those funds went directly back into the program, supporting the very students who did the work. The real-life experience these students got from the project is invaluable.
In addition, building a strong university identity will benefit the entire community by elevating SJSU's image -- and encouraging support and engagement from our many audiences.
