Anyone with a BS degree in Computer Engineering or a related field who wishes to study for an MS degree in Computer Engineering at San Jose State University (SJSU), is encouraged to apply for admission.
If you are currently a graduate student in another department related to Computer Engineering at SJSU, you need not apply to enroll into the MS in the CmpE program.
However, a student who was previously admitted to the Master's Degree program at SJSU but was not enrolled in any course at SJSU for one or more semesters (not counting summer), must file an application for admission and be re-admitted to the program.
If you just received a baccalaureate or a Master's Degree from SJSU and wish to continue your studies, you must re-apply for admission.
For more information, go to Graduate Studies and Research
See Graduate Admissions and Program Evaluations page for admission deadlines.
Students applying after the deadline may be accommodated, but we cannot offer any guarantees.
Online application may be obtained from the GAPE page.
There are special instructions and requirements for foreign students. A financial statement, official grade transcripts, TOEFL, and general GRE are required for most foreign students(see 'Admission Requirements').
The MS Computer Engineering program has an expedited admissions process, and can evaluate an application for admission (and the necessary I-20) as soon as the 7th semester mark-sheet is available.
Applications are submitted using the graduate admissions selection at CSUmentor.org. The following will are some hints for filling in the application pages:
A graduate student who has been admitted to another department in SJSU has to complete at least one semester of work in that department before asking for transfer to the Computer Engineering program. Students will be admitted and classified based on the conditions described in the Admission Requirements section. Upon approval of the transfer, a student must submit a Change of Major form to the Computer Engineering Department to complete the transfer process.
There is no pre-evaluation
A maximum of 6 graduate level semester units from another department or university may be counted towards the Master's Degree. A Credit Transfer Evaluation form must be approved by the Graduate Coordinator and filed at the Computer Engineering Department.
