What is Mailman?
Mailman is an email list
management tool. The University Computing and Telecommunications
department hosts Mailman to enable the creation and maintenance
of email discussion lists for faculty, staff and sponsored student
organizations.

Email lists are used at SJSU for many purposes. Their primary use
is to enable ease of communication between faculty-students, inter-department
communications, and interest lists for SJSU or global audiences.

Are there other email list hosting
sites?
There are a number of external email hosting sites, the two best
known are
Both of these sites offer Web-enabled list maintenance and archiving,
and straightforward instructions for subscribing or signing on
new members to your list. The downside of these external lists is
that you and your list subscribers are subject to varying degrees
of commercial advertising.
